Interactive Embodied Performance
Chinese Short-term Cross-cultural Diaspora / Tides
Against the backdrop of accelerating globalization, diaspora has gradually evolved from its traditional association with long-term migration into a more daily and fluid state of existence. Tidal Diaspora is an experimental embodied interactive performance work based on my four-month study-abroad experience in UC Berkeley, USA. Through the metaphor of tides, the project translates the diasporic experiences of short-term cross-cultural migration among Chinese individuals. Combining nonlinear montage narrative, symbolic audiovisual language, and tide-data-driven embodied dance, the work incorporates audiovisual interaction, spatial projection, and motion-capture technologies to transform private experiences of diaspora into a public perceptual experience, exploring how diasporic individuals reconstruct identity and existence within states of mobility and instability.
