Interaction Experience

Description

Physical Space Interaction

Emotional Symbiosis / Art Therapy

Out of Control is a spatial interaction that explores the contemporary anxiety of losing control. Using Kinect motion capture and spatial projection, it creates a chaotic audiovisual environment where participants wipe away virtual fog. This simple, controllable gesture dynamically alters thermal imagery, soundscapes, and heart-rate visualizations in real-time. Through this multi-sensory interaction, the work reflects on the nuanced interplay between technology and human emotion, inviting participants to deconstruct and reflect upon their own perceptions of control and chaos within an immersive experience.

A World Out of Control

We live in a world that is increasingly out of control—from economic crises and ecological disasters to information overload and emotional disorder. This ongoing state of disorder continuously fuels individual anxiety, insecurity, and anger, making the experience of being out of control a shared and widespread condition.

Emotion Regulation Theory

Psychologist James Gross’s “Emotion Regulation Model” suggests that emotions are individual responses to the external world. Since we cannot always change the situations, we can instead try to regulate our emotions by altering our behaviors and ways of thinking—allowing us to coexist with our emotions.

THERMOGRAPHY & EMOTIONS

When we experience intense emotions, such as fear or anger, the body activates a series of physiological responses that include changes in skin temperature. Thermography is a technology that allows the measurement of the energy radiation emitted by a body, which has been used to study the response to startle, empathy, guilt, shame, sexual arousal, stress, fear, anxiety, pain and joy.

Concept

We constructed a chaotic space through visuals and sounds. Participants are invited to wipe away floating virtual fog on the screen.
